What is Earth Day?
Earth Day was set up in the United States on 22 April 1970 by environmental activists whose aim was to educate participants and the wider population about the importance of environmental conservation. Over 50 years later, the Earth Day Network (EDN) campaigns bring together more than 1 billion participants annually, making it one of the largest public events worldwide.

What is the EDN’s mission?
Their mission is that everyone, regardless of their race, gender, income or location, have a moral right to a healthy and sustainable environment. They aim to broaden the public’s awareness of concerning environmental factors through activism campaigns, education and public policy.

What are some environmental issues that we face today?
Each environmental issue that we face today is connected human advancement. Some of the main issues include air pollution, climate change, deforestation, energy consumption, plastic pollution and many more.

What can you do to help?
It is equally as important to care for the environment whilst at work as it is at home. It is where we spend most of our time so here are a few ways that you can help;

  • Turn off the lights in rooms that are vacant.
  • Unplug devices that are not in use.
  • Limit the use of heating and air conditioning units.
  • Optimise the use of printers (print in black and white, and on both sides of the paper)
  • Recycle (paper, ink cartridges, plastic, cardboard)
  • Invest in plants (they purify the air of polluting elements)
  • Walk or cycle to work, use public transport or car-share with other employees.

Taking care of the planet is in everyone’s hands and action must be taken every day. Encourage your employees to be more environmentally friendly.
